Through much of 2023, container dwell time at the San Pedro Bay Port Complex has continued to remain at the pre- pandemic normal range. This past April, the days a container destined for local delivery stayed at terminals for 3.1 days, up slightly from 2.5 days the month before. For rail-bound containers, this figure increased from 4.1 days to 4.7 days.

“The amount of time containers dwells at the port is a critical indicator of the overall health of the supply chain,” stated Michele Grubbs, Vice President of the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association (PMSA).  “Our 2023 dwell figures highlight the ability of the San Pedro Bay ports to quickly move cargo to the American people. Marine terminal operators continue to take all measures to ensure the efficient movement of containers, particularly as we look forward to the approaching peak season.”
