March dwell time data for the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach saw a continued decrease in rail-destined container average dwell times, after peaking in October 2024, while truck-destined container dwell times remained consistently low and steady.

Rail-destined cargo dwell time decreased to 6.75 days in March, down from 8.00 days in February and lower than the 7.02 days experienced in March 2024. Cargo moving through the San Pedro Bay Port Complex via truck spent an average of 2.77 days at port terminals in March, relatively unchanged from February’s 2.81 days.

"We’re encouraged by the positive month-to-month and annual performance trends on rail dwell times, even in the face of high levels of uncertainty in the current intermodal environment. We appreciate the continued efforts of our marine terminals and our rail and trucking partners to keep goods moving smoothly and efficiently throughout the supply chain," stated Natasha Villa, External Affairs Manager of the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association (PMSA).xxx
